Caffeine is consumed by most of us on a daily basis. Sometimes we ingest it without even realizing it because approximately 60 different plants contain caffeine. Furthermore, the FDA does not require the amount of caffeine in a product to be listed.
Most experts suggest the safe daily consumption level of caffeine to be 400mg or the equivalent of 10 cans of soda, 5 cups of coffee, or 2 energy drinks. But caffeine isn’t always the answer. Brisk walking, running, or other forms of exercise can also perk you up as they release chemicals that lift both your mood and increase energy.
We aren’t saying you should cut caffeine out of your diet. In fact, it has many benefits. But it can also become very addictive and has the potential to cause life-threatening conditions.
Caffeine has been known to cause headaches, anxiety and panic attacks, and an increase in blood pressure and heart rate. It can also lead to heart palpitations, disrupted sleep, and an increased risk for osteoporosis.
