Do I Have a Cold

Did you know that 50 million working days are lost annually because of the common cold?

Sometimes it’s hard to even tell if you have a cold. Is it really a cold? Is it allergies? Perhaps even the flu?

We decided to give you a few clues.
When a cold strikes it usually begins with a sore throat. Soon thereafter you begin to feel some of these other common symptoms:

  • Runny Nose
  • Sneezing
  • Fatigue
  • Cough
  • Mild Muscle Aches
  • Headache

While most of us consider catching a cold to be no big deal, for those who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or newborns, it can be a bit more serious. If you fit one of these categories and catch a cold we suggest you seek medical attention.

Child coughing

For the rest of us it’s important to know that there is no cure for the common cold. However, the following treatments are recommended to expedite your recovery.

  • Rest
  • Increase Your Fluid Intake
  • Gargle Warm Salt Water (for your throat)
  • Warm Steam (for your congestion)

Now we can all avoid contact with each other, wash our hands frequently, and use things like disposable towels, but the truth is, on average an adult will catch a cold 2 to 4 times each year.

So take precautions, eat right, but when it is your turn to catch this common cold, rest, get well and take care of yourself.
